Location/Context
The City of Albuquerque Public Art Program, the Albuquerque Arts Board, and the Creative Albuquerque Mural Selection Committee have initiated a project to enhance the east exterior wall of a facility located at 115 4th Street NW. The facility is owned by the City of Albuquerque and leased by Creative Albuquerque. The Committee seeks artists from the greater Albuquerque area to design and install a mural/relief that will embody the values and mission of Creative Albuquerque, while further enhancing the diversity of the Downtown Arts and Cultural district and the 4th Street pedestrian mall.
Project Intent/Theme
The Creative Albuquerque Mural Selection Committee seeks artists who can design and implement a mural/relief on the east facing exterior wall (see photo below). The Committee seeks proposals that will take into consideration the vibrancy of the Downtown Arts and Cultural district, the 4th Street pedestrian mall and Creative Albuquerque's values and mission, www.creativeabq.org.
Site
The site is located at 115 4th Street NW, on the southwest corner of 4th and Copper NW, on the pedestrian mall. The project site is 20 feet wide by 8 feet high but the Committee encourages designs that will incorporate a larger section of the wall.
Media/Style/Size
The Committee will accept one design per artist’s proposal fitting the given measurements for the project. The design should be submitted in digital format, preferably as a ‘JPG’. The design should incorporate the vitality of the City and the Downtown Arts and Cultural district, as well as the driving forces behind Creative Albuquerque’s mission. The design should consider the stucco surface area and which type of medium can best be applied for durability and resilience to the surrounding environment. The artist will be responsible for the design, implementation and completion of the project. The City’s Public Art Program is available for consultation on appropriateness of materials upon request.
Project Funds
$25,000 is available to design, implement and complete the project, which includes all materials and preparation of the site. The source of the funds for this project is General Obligation Bonds - 1% for Art.
